Inhibits ER stress (UPR modulation), prevents mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis (blocks BAX translocation), and is neuroprotective. FDA-approved in the EU as Taurolite for cholestatic liver disease. Popular supplement for liver support during oral anabolic steroid cycles. Also studied for ALS, Parkinson's, and retinal degeneration. Well-absorbed orally; undergoes enterohepatic circulation.
