Lincosamide antibiotic inhibiting 50S ribosomal subunit. Excellent activity against gram-positive cocci (including MRSA) and anaerobes. Achieves high concentrations in bone, making it preferred for osteomyelitis. ~90% oral bioavailability unaffected by food. Notable risk of C. difficile colitis. Also available topically for acne. Hepatically metabolized with active metabolites.
