Cerebrolysin

Peptide Mixtureprescription

Injectable porcine-brain hydrolysate containing many low-molecular-weight peptides and amino acids rather than one defined drug molecule. It is used in some countries for neurologic indications but is not FDA approved. Controlled evidence differs by indication: a recent Cochrane review did not find a mortality benefit in acute ischemic stroke and identified a possible increase in nonfatal serious adverse events.

Pharmacokinetic model

A route-level PK model for cerebrolysin is being prepared from published data. Dosing references, studies, and documented interactions are below; the app catalog is updated as models are validated.

  1. Cerebrolysin for acute ischaemic stroke Ziganshina LE, Abakumova T, Nurkhametova D, Ivanchenko K · Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2023 DOI

Updated Cochrane review included seven randomized trials with 1,773 participants, including one trial of the related cattle-brain mixture Cortexin. Moderate-certainty evidence found little or no difference in all-cause…

  2. Cerebrolysin - a multi-target drug for recovery after stroke Brainin M · Expert Review of Neurotherapeutics, 2018 DOI

Narrative review describes proposed multi-target neurotrophic mechanisms and clinical recovery hypotheses. It is mechanistic and interpretive, not a new randomized efficacy trial, and cannot establish a measurable…

  3. Cerebrolysin in vascular dementia - improvement of clinical outcome in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter trial Guekht AB, Moessler H, Novak PH, Gusev EI · Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, 2011 DOI

Multicenter trial randomized 242 participants with vascular dementia and reported improvement on a combined cognitive/global clinical endpoint at 24 weeks. Later Cochrane synthesis judged the broader vascular-dementia…

  4. Cerebrolysin for vascular dementia Cui S, Chen N, Yang M, Guo J, Zhou M, Zhu C, He L · Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2019 DOI

Cochrane review concluded that small short-duration trials suggested possible cognitive and global-function effects, but the evidence was insufficient for routine use because of trial limitations, imprecision, and…
